Blackjack (Natural)
When your first two cards are an Ace and a 10-value card (10, J, Q, K) and total 21 instantly, it is called a Blackjack (Natural). It normally pays 1.5x on top of your bet.
Bust
When a player's or dealer's hand goes over 21, it is a Bust and that side loses automatically. If you Bust, you lose your bet regardless of whether the dealer also Busts.
Insurance
When the dealer's face-up card is an Ace, you can place an Insurance bet of up to half your original bet. If the dealer has Blackjack, the Insurance pays 2x.
Surrender
If you decide the situation is not in your favor, you can Surrender and lose only half your bet instead of the full amount. Availability depends on the game version.
Push (Tie)
When the player and dealer have the same total, it is a Push and your bet is returned. Nobody wins or loses.
Soft Hand / Hard Hand
A hand that includes an Ace counted as 1 or 11 is called a Soft Hand. A hand with no Ace, or one where the Ace can only count as 1, is called a Hard Hand.
